What auto insurance company has policy numbers like this.?

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

Recently got into a minor accident and forgot to take down the name of the other party’s auto insurance. The policy number has a format of ###-######-10/18. Calls to their phone number are also not being answered so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Also, this occured in Los Angeles and the car had a CA plate as well if that’s any help.

one thing a cop told me is you have to call a cop because its a felony if you drive off and they can come after you so its best to stay

What are the names of some small auto insurance companies in Pennsylvania?

Tuesday, March 9th, 2010

I am not interested in big companies like Geico. If you have a policy with a smaller auto insurance company and you have a good experience with them I would appreciate the information. Thanks in advance.
P.S. Also, I do not need websites that provide you with a number of quotes because after you submit your info to them you cannot get rid of agents calling you for the next couple of weeks.

My two favorites, are Erie, and Merchants Mutual. They are both small regional carriers – they don’t write nationwide, but do a GREAT job.

You’re right, online websites will harvest your personal information, and sell it as leads.

What kind of auto insurance should you get on a car that is paid off?

Monday, March 8th, 2010

I am renewing my auto insurance. I have a car with all kinds of great features like leather seats, upgraded stereo, sunroof, etc. Is there some way to insure it so if it gets totaled, I can buy a car of equal quality? Should I even get full coverage?
Thanks.

You need to get what’s called "Comprehensive" insurance and also what’s called "gap insurance" and that should cover it all.

How would auto insurance company know if I am unemployed?

Sunday, March 7th, 2010

I noticed someone posted that their auto insurance rates went up since they are unemployed. I have been unemployed since February and my rates stayed the same. I don’t tell the insurance company that I lost my job. How will the insurance company know if I am working or not?

They don’t know if you are employed or not.

It’s not based on employment – it’s based on credit score. Likely, that other person also stopped paying bills.

How to get auto insurance from a state that your college is in rather than your resident state?

Saturday, March 6th, 2010

I live in New Jersey where the auto insurance is relatively expensive. However, I go to college in South Carolina where the auto insurance is a lot cheaper than in New Jersey. How can I get the cheaper South Carolina auto insurance? Do I need a South Carolina driver’s license to do this? Should I buy a car from a South Carolina dealership?

You get insurance from the place where you live. If you are looking for the best auto insurance in your area, check out this site

What to do when my auto insurance has been lapsed for 3 weeks?

Friday, March 5th, 2010

My auto insurance was cancelled as of December 3 due to nonpayment. I want to get insurance with a different company in the next week when I get my next paycheck, will the new company I sign up for know it has been lapsed for a few weeks? This is the first time I have ever let this happen so I have no idea what to expect.

Don’t drive in the meantime, besides being illegal, you could end up paying for an accident for years. Insurance companies don’t like to see lapses in coverage – it’s a sign of irresponsibility, so you will pay more because of that lapse.
